Light vehicle effective against infantry and snipers. Has increased vision range. Can reveal nearby camouflaged units.

The 221 Scout Car is a Wehrmacht unit. In skirmishes, it is produced from the .

As the name implies, this light vehicle unit is an effective reconnaissance and light skirmishing unit. Durability and mobility wise, it is quite similar to the UKF's , featuring identical health value, slightly less armour values. and practically identical speed and acceleration. As such, the 221 Scout Car is an effective skirmishing unit that can move around quickly to support fights on the battlefield and/or chase down retreating units.

The 221 also features far greater sight range of 45 compared to most units with 35 sight range. This makes it quite useful for spotting for the rest of the army. In addition, it counts as a detector unit meaning it can reveal camouflaged units within 25 meter range as opposed to the standard 12.5 range.

Offensively it is armed with a rotating machine gun that is effective against infantry. This weapon generally deals greater damage per second against infantry than the usual weapons on ultra light recon vehicles such as the USF and UKF . However, this weapon lacks penetration and thus it is not too effective against light vehicles.

The 221 can be upgraded for further utility or to equip an anti-vehicle weapon. The Radio Antenna upgrade allows the unit to capability of detecting enemy units in the fog of war when stationary. Meanwhile, the Panzerbüchse 41 Anti-tank Gun upgrade changes the unit's weapon to a forwarding facing anti-tank weapon that is most effective against light vehicles, while also unlocking the White Phosphorus Round ability. More info can be seen in the sections below.

At veterancy level 1 it gains the passive Scout Awareness, which further increases its already impressive sight range. This makes the 221 one of the best scout units in the game (ignoring special abilities).

While by default the 221 does not carry the same kind of shock value some other light vehicles do, it certainly still offers good utility and speed. Use its speed and superior sight range to get around the field quickly and assist other units as necessary, whether that be to add firepower or to scout for threats. As with most light vehicles, while it is resistant to small arm bullets it is still vulnerable to being destroyed fairly quickly from practically any anti-tank weapon or ability. Care must be taken as it is still ultimately a fragile unit.

In particular, upgrading the 221 with the anti-tank weapon in the early to mid game stages of a match is a common strategy, in order to deal with other light vehicles effectively. Be wary that this anti-tank weapon can only face forward and thus the 221 must always face its target in order to fire, so it can be quite vulnerable if caught in its flanks. Usage of White Phosphorus Rounds can be lucrative as a way to support other anti-tank efforts, as it is a very effective vehicle snare.

Uniquely, this unit can benefit from the Repair Crews perk from the Mechanized Battlegroup, allowing it to passively repair nearby vehicles when stationary and out of combat.

  • Radio Antenna: Upgrades the unit with the Signal Detection passive ability, allowing it to detect enemy units in the fog of war while stationary. See abilities section for more details. Incompatible with AT gun upgrade (cannot have both).

  • Panzerbüchse 41 Anti-tank Gun: Replaces the default machine gun with a fixed, forward facing anti-tank weapon. This weapon is most effective against light vehicles, obviously packing far greater damage and penetration against vehicles compared to its default weapon. That said, it will struggle against heavier armour, and is generally ineffective against infantry. Be wary that the weapon only faces forward and thus the unit must turn to face targets. Incompatible with Radio Antenna upgrade (cannot have both).

  • Spotting Scopes: This upgrade is only available when the Spotting Scopes perk within Mechanized Battlegroup is obtained. Increases the vision range of the unit by +10 when stationary.

This unit benefits from the following Battlegroup benefits:

Breakthrough Battlegroup

  • Rapid Production: Passive perk. Significantly reduces the build time of all vehicles from production buildings.

  • Blitzkrieg: Active ability. Globally increases vehicle speed, rate of fire, and vehicles are harder to hit when active.

Mechanized Battlegroup

  • Raid Package: Passive perk. Globally allows all light vehicles to capture territory and all vehicles can use the Smoke Canisters ability.

  • Mechanized Assault: Active ability. Vehicles auto-repair, and infantry move faster, take less damage, and are harder to hit when near friendly vehicles for duration of ability

  • Repair Crews: Passive perk. Grants the and its variants ( and ), as well as the the passive ability Repair Crews, allowing them to repair nearby friendly vehicles while stationary and out of combat.

Note: Forward Observer Artillery Barrage is not available in skirmishes.

  • Signal Detection: Passive ability, only available when the Radio Antenna upgrade package is obtained. When stationary, this unit will periodically reveal enemy units in a large range around it, even through the fog of war. This is represented as a 'radar ping' where white rings periodically radiates from it. If it overlaps with an enemy unit in the fog of war, they will be detected and either a red infantry or vehicle icon will show up on the screen and mini-map. While it does not reveal the exact unit identity nor provide direct vision in the fog of war, it essentially shows the player the positioning and type of unit(s) in the fog of war. Moving will disable this ability and interrupt any current detection rings being sent out.

  • White Phosphorus Round: Active ability, only available when the Panzerbüchse 41 Anti-tank Gun upgrade package is obtained. Fires a special round at the targeted vehicle, blinding it completely while also significantly slowing it and disabling its weapons temporarily. A powerful ranged anti-tank snare, it will debilitate a targeted vehicle greatly for a short time, making it extremely vulnerable to follow-up attempts. Combine with other dedicated anti-tank weapons for great effect.

  • Repair Crews: Requires the Repair Crews perk from the Mechanized Battlegroup. Allows the and its variants ( and ), as well as the to passively repair nearby friendly vehicles at a rate of 5.5 health per second while stationary and out of combat.

  • Raid Package: Passive ability. Requires the Raid Package perk from Mechanized Battlegroup. Globally allows all light vehicles to capture territory and all vehicles can use the Smoke Canisters ability.

  • Smoke Canisters: Active ability. Requires the Raid Package perk from Mechanized Battlegroup. Drops a smoke cloud immediately in front of the vehicle, obscuring line of sight. Useful especially in defensive situations in order to escape fire from enemy units.
