Heavy weapon team effective against vehicles. Can toggle on camouflage that grants first-strike bonuses when stationary Must be set-up to attack, but can retreat Less penetration than other anti-tank guns
The LG40 Anti-Tank Gun Team is a Wehrmacht weapons team unit. In skirmishes, the unit is not produced directly. Instead, it is para-dropped as an abandoned weapon via the LG40 Recoilless Gun Paradrop call-in ability with the Luftwaffe Battlegroup.
Once dropped onto the field, like any other abandoned weapon it may be destroyed or crewed by any player in the match, including opponents. As such, it is wise to para-drop these at safe locations or simply at base for the Wehrmacht player and/or allies to crew safely.
The weapon itself is a dedicated anti-tank weapon. It is significantly smaller than standard AT guns like the Wehrmacht
Like any other weapons team, it requires setting up before being able to fire. Once set up, it can only fire within its range and arc of fire. The LG40 has a similar arc of fire to AT guns, but it also sets up and rotates fairly quickly compared to bulkier AT guns.

By default this unit has the ability to camouflage itself via the Ambush Camouflage toggle ability. When toggled on, the unit will camouflage on the spot without requiring cover, at the cost of -50% vision and -50% speed. It gains an ambush bonus when attacking to break its invisibility, giving its first shot additional accuracy, damage, and penetration bonuses. See abilities section for more info.
At veterancy level 1 it gains the High-Explosive Shells toggle ability. When toggled on, the attack properties of the weapon is changed with increased area of effect radius and full damage against garrisoned infantry, at the cost of range and direct damage value. See veterancy section for more info.
As a unique 'lightweight' anti-tank weapon, this can be useful for providing an anti-light vehicle solution early on before better weapons are made available. This is especially true due to its low cost, both in CP and resource cost to deploy (although remember it still needs to be crewed). Effective use of its Ambush Camouflage ability is incredible helpful to keep the weapon relevant and effective, either in fighting armour or to keep it alive. Once it reaches level 1, it can become an effective anti-infantry support weapon, though one must be wary of the lower range and damage penalties which obviously will make it worse against vehicles while High-Explosive Shells is toggled on.
Remember that because it is para-dropped alone, it can be crewed by allies in team matches and thus one can purposely drop them in to grant LG40s to teammates.

High-Explosive Shells: Active toggle ability gained upon reaching veterancy level 1. When toggled on, the LG40 team changes its attack properties, gaining +2 area of effect radius and dealing full damage to garrisoned infantry units, at the cost of -10 range and -40 direct damage value. This toggle essentially allows the LG40 the option of becoming an effective anti-infantry weapon, as the increased area of effect makes it far more effective at dealing damage to them. In addition, it removes the damage penalty against garrisoned units, making this an incredible threat to defensive positions. On the other hand, while toggled on it obviously makes the unit far worse at anti-vehicle duties, and so one must be wary and toggle it as necessary. 10 second cooldown between toggle switches. Can be combined with Ambush Camouflage toggle.
Ambush Camouflage: Active toggle ability. When toggled on, the unit camouflages when out of combat, becoming invisible to enemies unless they get too close. -50% vision and movement speed while camouflaged. When attacking to break this invisibility, its first shot (typically dubbed 'ambush bonus') will have +25% damage, +50% accuracy, and +50% penetration bonuses. Overall this is a powerful ability to help keep the LG40 hidden and safe, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. As it is a toggle ability, the unit does not need to stay in cover to remain hidden, though beware of the speed and vision loss. Once a good opportunity arises, the ambush bonus is great for getting a good first shot off that is practically guaranteed to deal damage and even punch above its weight if ambushing a more armoured target. Remember that it cannot camouflage while in combat, so the unit will need to move away from combat for some time to regain invisibility. The loss of vision in particular means players will want to support it to allow it to actually strike at a distance and make use of its ambush bonus.
