The Mortar Halftrack should be used similarly to any other standard mortar team. As an artillery unit it is best used at long range and far away from threats, as it has no real way of defending itself if caught out. Its barrages are effective against infantry, garrisons, and structures - it is useful for forcing enemy units like weapons teams to move or take damage. However, unlike mortar teams, it is a vehicle and thus has all the pros and cons of being one. It is far faster than weapon teams and thus can easily move into position or retreat to safety much more quickly. On the other hand it is vulnerable to not just small arms but also anti-tank weapons and abilities.
Like all mortar teams, it is capable of auto attacking (or attack ground) at a very slow rate of fire. This is generally not too effective but it does allow it to contribute while its barrage abilities are on cooldown. It has access to the standard High-Explosive Barrages as well as Smoke Barrages. At veterancy level 1 it gains the active ability Incendiary Round, which allows it to fire a single incendiary shell that leaves lingering fire effective against infantry and structures.
This unit retains the armour increase from the prerequisite Combat Half-Tracks upgrade available at the

Incendiary Round: Active abiliy gained upon reaching veterancy level 1. Fires a single incendiary shell at the target area, creating a lingering field of fire. While it lacks a lot of initial damage, the lingering fire is effective against infantry and structures, including garrisons. The extended area denial can be a useful way to discourage units from repositioning back to the same area, and to deny crewing abandoned weapons.

High-Explosive Barrage: Active ability. Fires multiple explosive shells at the target area. Has a minimum cast range. Effective against stationary infantry, garrisons, and structures. A good way to force enemy units to move or else take damage, especially weapon teams.
Smoke Barrage: Fires multiple smoke volleys at the target area, creating sight obscuring smoke clouds. Smoke is useful for a variety of offensive or defensive purposes.
Emergency Repair Kits: Passive ability. The unit will repair itself when stationary and out of combat. Requires the Emergency Repair Kits upgrade from the Armory.
Smoke Canisters: Active ability. Drops smoke directly in front of the vehicle. Requires the Vehicle Survival Package upgrade from the Armory.
Vehicle Capture: Passive ability. The unit gains increased movement speed, rotation rate, and is able to capture/decapture territory. Requires the Rapid Advance upgrade from the Armory.
Vehicle Awareness: Passive ability. The vehicle can detect enemy vehicles in the fog of war. Requires the Vehicle Awareness perk.
Panzer Storm: Active battlegroup ability. Upon activation, globally increases the speed of all vehicles and grants them immunity to engine criticals for the duration.
