Light tank effective against infantry and vehicles. Can damage tanks when flanking.
The Carro Armato M13/40 Light Tank is a DAK light tank unit. In multiplayer skirmishes it can only be attained as a call-in from the Italian Combined Arms Battlegroup.
The Carro Armato is a light tank that behaves very similarly to the UKF M3 Stuart. It features very similar stats to the Stuart, including similar mobility and weapon stats. It also has higher health but less armour values comparatively.
Like the Stuart, it is most effective using its speed to flank problematic situations. It is effective against infantry and light vehicles while having enough armour to be basically bulletproof, requiring dedicated anti-tank weapons to be dealt with. However its weapon penetration is lacking which will struggle against most frontal armour, but can still deal damage if attacking the flanks. As it is still a light tank, its durability is still on the light side and thus caution is advised as it can still be destroyed fairly easily by most anti-tank weapons.
By default it has the active ability Armor-Piercing Rounds, which when activated, significantly increases its weapon penetration while also slowing vehicles it damages for the duration of the ability. However during this buff, it has decreased area of effect which decreases its anti-infantry performance. It has a fairly expensive Munitions cost but it can be useful utility especially when backed up with other anti-tank weapons. At veterancy level 1 it gains the passive Italian Vanguard which increases its rate of fire the more Italian units are near it.
Of special note, Italian tanks in skirmishes benefit from various Armory upgrades but do not benefit from Tungsten Core Ammunition.

Armor-Piercing Rounds: Active ability. When activated, the unit gains increased penetration and slows vehicle when dealing damage for the duration of the ability. However, it also has decreased area of effect during this, which decreases its anti-infantry performance. Has an expensive Munitions cost but can be useful utility in the right situations, especially when supporting other anti-tank weapons.
Emergency Repair Kits: Passive ability. The unit will repair itself when stationary and out of combat. Requires the Emergency Repair Kits upgrade from the Armory.
Smoke Canisters: Active ability. Drops smoke directly in front of the vehicle. Requires the Vehicle Survival Package upgrade from the Armory.
Vehicle Capture: Passive ability. The unit gains increased movement speed, rotation rate, and is able to capture/decapture territory. Requires the Rapid Advance upgrade from the Armory.

The M13/40 was the primary tank used by Italy during the war. The "M" stands for Medio (medium), the "13" referring to its 13 tonne weight, and the "40" referring to the first year of production.
This tank was considered a medium tank by Italian tank weight standards at the time. In hindsight it is somewhat misleading since it could more accurately be described as a light tank when compared to many other Allied and Axis powers' tanks over the course of WW2.
In the early years of the war in 1940-1941, this tank was quite capable, having comparable armour and offensive power as many British tanks at the time. However, it also came with many shortcomings and was quickly outdated as it did not keep up with rapidly improving armour and firepower of other nations over the years.
