Heavy weapon very effective against structures, team weapons, and stationary infantry at long-range. Must be set-up to attack.
The ML 4.2-inch Heavy Mortar Team is an elite UKF unit. In multiplayer it can only be accessed through the Indian Artillery Battlegroup. Once the Towed ML 4.2-inch Heavy Mortar battlegroup ability is attained, a CMP 15cwt Truck towing this unit can be summoned to the field. Note that since the unit is summoned via a 'bundled' package, the actual total cost to produce the heavy mortar team is higher, and includes a fuel cost (currently 440 Manpower and 20 Fuel as of the October 4 2023 Umbral Wasp patch).
This artillery unit functions essentially as medium artillery, only being outclassed in 'weight' with heavier artillery like the BL5.5 Artillery Emplacement. It lacks the mobility of the lighter ML 3-Inch Mortar Team due to slower movement and longer set-up times, but certainly packs far more firepower and range than both it and the M1 Pack Howitzer Team.
As with all artillery units, it can barrage with high-explosive volleys to destructive effect, forcing opponents to move their units or take significant damage. The Heavy Mortar Team also by default has access to Smoke Barrages and Recon Flares, and gains access to Airburst Barrages at veterancy level 1.
Like any other artillery, it is best used at long range and far away from threats as if it is caught out, it has little ability to defend itself or escape easily. Similar to standard mortars, it is capable of auto attacking (or attack ground command) at a very slow rate of fire. While generally too slow to be very effective, it allows the artillery to continue contributing while its barrage abilities are on cooldown. Unlike standard mortars, its volleys are more powerful and capable of doing more damage upon striking enemies. The Heavy Mortar also packs far more impressive range and utility over the 3-Inch Mortar Team.
For more immediate and devastating damage, use its High-Explosive Barrage ability to fire multiple volleys at a faster rate. Smoke Barrage is great utility to obscure vision in an area for various purposes, usually to prevent things like HMGs from firing on your units advancing forward. Recon Flare allows the unit to provide vision over a target area even from massive range, giving it great utility for the UKF player to scout for targets and intel. At veterancy level 1, the unit gains access to Airburst Barrage, a barrage ability that is much more effective against infantry due to its larger blast radius - useful for killing non-vehicles in a hurry.
Mobility-wise the Heavy Mortar is similar to AT guns, in that it is light enough for the team to move independently (albeit even more slowly and with longer set up time), but is cumbersome enough that the team requires set-up before firing, and is still slower moving than most infantry. Similarly, this weapon can also be towed.
As with most heavy weapons, if the weapon crew is killed the mortar will be abandoned on the field and can be re-crewed by any player, including the enemy!
This unit benefits from the Team Weapon training upgrade available at the Training Center.

4.2-inch Airburst Barrage: Active ability gained after reaching veterancy level 1. Fires volleys at the target location similar to any other barrage. However, airburst barrages are far more effective against infantry due to a far larger blast radius and increased anti-infantry damage. As a trade-off, it deals less damage to armour and structures.

4.2-inch HE Barrage: Fires high explosive rounds at the target area. Has a minimum cast range. Very effective against stationary targets, although not nearly as effective against armour as it is against infantry and structures.
4.2-Inch Smoke Barrage: Fires smoke rounds at the target area, obscuring vision for any unit attempting to see through it. Has a minimum cast range. Smoke can be useful for a variety of offensive or defensive purposes. Due to the long range of the heavy mortar team, this can be useful to get smoke down easily where you need it.
Recon Flare: Fires a flare over the target area, providing vision for a short period of time. Due to the long range of the mortar, this can be cast nearly anywhere you need it, making it very useful for on-demand intel.
Team Weapon Training: Available from the Training Center. Grants +800 veterancy XP. Veteran weapons team gains +10% accuracy, +10% reload speed, and -10% received accuracy.
