Note: This page refers to the DAK unit. Not to be confused with the Wehrmacht version (https://cohdex.com/wiki/units/panzer_iv_ger). Both units are identical to each other, with the main difference being they benefit from different upgrades and abilities with respect to their faction.

The Panzer IV Sd.Kfz. 161/1 (commonly abbreviated as simply Panzer IV or "P4") is a DAK medium tank unit. In multiplayer skirmishes it is only available as a call-in from the faction's Armored Reserves Deployment System, which itself requires a Panzerarmee Kommand and the additional research upgrade called Armored Reserves from the Headquarters. Specifically, the call-in is Panzer IV Assault Group which deploys a Panzer IV transporting an Assault Grenadier squad.

The DAK Panzer IV is a very late game unit due to the additional time and resources required to unlock it, as well as being restricted to the deployment system. It is identical to the Wehrmacht version although it benefits from various DAK upgrades and thus has different abilities.

Compared to the Panzer III, it is certainly a heavier tank, featuring greater durability in health and armour values as well having lower mobility. The Panzer IV also has a better main cannon over the Panzer III featuring greater penetration as well as better anti-infantry performance due to lower scatter values. Compared to the US Sherman tank, it is quite similar with a better main cannon but worse armour values.

Overall, the Panzer IV is a solid generalist medium tank effective against most ground targets. The difficulty of attaining a Panzer IV as DAK means it is usually rare to field these.

Veterancy Abilities

  • Rapid Fire: Active ability gained upon reaching veterancy level 1. For a short duration, the unit gains increased rate of fire and accuracy, but reduces its movement speed. Useful in situations where a fast retreat or pursuit is not necessary, as it is otherwise a straight combat buff. Has a long cooldown.

Armory Upgrades/Abilities

  • Emergency Repair Kits: Passive ability. The unit will repair itself when stationary and out of combat. Requires the Emergency Repair Kits upgrade from the Armory.

  • Smoke Canisters: Active ability. Drops smoke directly in front of the vehicle. Requires the Vehicle Survival Package upgrade from the Armory.

  • Vehicle Capture: Passive ability. The unit gains increased movement speed, rotation rate, and is able to capture/decapture territory. Requires the Rapid Advance upgrade from the Armory.

  • Tungsten Core Ammunition: Globally upgrades the penetration of all tank guns and autocannons. Cosmetically the weapon's tracer effects are also changed to a greenish colour. Requires the Tungsten Core Ammunition upgrade from the Armory.

Armored Support Battlegroup

  • Vehicle Awareness: Passive ability. The vehicle can detect enemy vehicles in the fog of war. Requires the Vehicle Awareness perk.

  • Panzer Storm: Active battlegroup ability. Upon activation, globally increases the speed of all vehicles and grants them immunity to engine criticals for the duration.
