Medium tank effective against vehicles, infantry, and structures.

The Panzer IV Medium Tank is a Wehrmacht medium tank unit. In skirmishes, it is available from the .

The iconic Panzer IV is a robust generalist tank, effective against both infantry and vehicles. Attained in the later stages of a skirmish match, it offers greater durability and firepower compared to many of the earlier Wehrmacht light vehicle options. Its main cannon especially is quite reliable, offering good damage and penetration values that are only really outmatched by the and the naturally. It also comes armed with additional hull and co-axial machine guns, giving it good additional anti-infantry performance.

Once deployed it is a great asset for Wehrmacht players as its strong generalist role means it is well suited for practically any situation. As a downside, it is far more expensive than many of the light vehicles that can be accessed earlier, especially considering the immense time and resource investment to access Panzer IV tanks.

By default it comes with the Hull Down ability. This is a toggle ability that allows the unit to 'dig-in' over several seconds. Once dug-in, the unit will receive significant damage reduction alongside other combat bonuses, but disables its movement completely.

The Panzer IV can be further upgraded with an additional pintle-mounted machine gun for more anti-infantry firepower, at a Munitions cost. It can also benefit from the Side Skirts upgrade available from the , granting it increased health and side armour values.

At veterancy level 1 it gains the Focused Fire active ability, which when activated grants the Panzer IV increased accuracy and rate of fire at the cost of reduced movement and rotation speed.

The Allied equivalent of this unit is the USF which has very similar stats to the Panzer IV, with minor exceptions like slightly higher speed and armour values. In a head to head match they both have very similar penetration chances against each other and both even have identical health.

Veterancy Abilities

  • Focused Fire: Active ability gained upon reaching veterancy level 1. When activated, the unit gains +20% accuracy and +30% rate of fire, but loses -50% movement and rotation speed. Duration of 30 seconds. A significant combat buff in terms of offensive power, this can be very handy in winning fights. However, the significant loss of mobility is a downside one must be wary of, especially as the lengthy duration (which cannot be cancelled prematurely) means it the unit can be very vulnerable if caught out at a bad time.

  • Hull Down: Active toggle ability. Can only be used when out of combat. When toggled on, the unit will begin 'channeling' a digging animation that cannot be cancelled, for 10 seconds. After digging in is complete, the unit will visually appear to have sandbags around it. The unit will gain -25% damage reduction, +5 range, +5 vision, and +30% rate of fire, at the cost of disabled movement and vehicle rotation (turret is unaffected). Toggling off is instantaneous. Has no cooldown, though remember that toggling it on requires the unit to be out of combat. Overall Hull Down allows for impressive defensive capabilities, though it does require setting up ahead of time to make use of it especially due to the lengthy dig-in time and out of combat requirement. For the Panzer IV in particular, since it can rotate its turret it is not nearly as inflexible as the when it comes to disabled movement, though it is still a disadvantage one needs to be wary of.

  • Smoke Canisters: Active ability only available to this unit when the Raid Package perk is obtained within the Mechanized Battlegroup. When activated, the unit drops smoke directly at its location, creating sight-obscuring smoke clouds. Useful for various purposes, especially as a defensive tool to retreat in the face of enemy fire.
